Mara trained as a botanical illustrator before she ever picked up a machine, and it shows: she draws from real plants, pressed specimens and the odd moth that lands on the studio window.

She works single-needle and fine liners, places every piece to follow the shape of the body, and will happily talk you out of a design that won’t last. Most of her pieces take one sitting of two to four hours.

Questions

How small can you go?

About 3 cm for simple shapes. Fine lines spread a little over the years, so tiny detail gets simplified at the consultation rather than lost later.

Do you tattoo colour?

Soft washes of colour on botanical pieces, yes. For bold, saturated colour, Theo is your artist.
